Blogging is one of many way to make money online. Many of showing advertisement in widget and might want to add them before post, after post or middle of post. For that you might need to change template code and have to make some customization which you don’t know or don’t want to.

Installing wordpress theme is easy, but to choose one from thousand themes will be little hard. We made list of theme providers, so it will be easy for you to hunt right theme for your blog.

1. Free WordPress themes:

If you are making blog only for family and friend or for fun, I will prefer you to go for free theme. Free theme will have features like free.

Premium theme have lot of feature and option to edit in theme directly from admin panel. You don’t need to code a lot. If you are professional blogger, then I definitely recommend you to choose it.

Install wordpress theme from Admin Panel

If you are using WordPress 2.9 or higher, you have this option. If you are using old version or want theme other than wordpress list or from wordpress theme center, then use my “Install wordpress theme from cpanel”.

Log in to wordpress admin panel and Go to Appearance>>Add New Themes
Refer to below image:

Choose option according to your choice. Then click find theme. You will see two option, Install and Preview. Click preview and look how does your blog will look. Click install if you like that theme. Click activate. You are done..!

Upload wordpress theme from Admin Panel

WordPress 2.9 came up with lot of new feature and one of them is to upload theme from admin panel. Before, we have to go to cpanel and have to upload it and then we can choose theme. But now it is very simple.

Log in to your wordpress admin panel. Go to Appearance>>Add new theme. Click on Upload.(refer to image)

Browse you theme and press “Install Now”. After completing install, it will ask you option preview and activate. Preview theme and if you like it, click activate. It was easy…!

Install WordPress theme from cpanel

Download theme whichever you like from above theme provider.

Log in to cpanel using your username and password. This can be obtained when you buy hosting.( This is not wordpress username and password.)

Go to File Manager. After that, go to public_html/wp-content/themes/. If you have installed wordpress on http://www.yourdomain.com/blog then go to public_html/blog/wp-content/themes/

You will see page where you can find similar icons like below image.

Click on upload icon. It will redirect you to another page. Browse your file. It will upload itself whenever you select your file.(Refer to image)

Close that window and go to pubic_html/wp-content/themes/ or public_html/blog/wp-content/themes/. Select file name and click extract (See number 2).
You are almost done! Go back to wordpress admin page, click on Appearance>>Themes and select your theme. You can preview and if you like it, activate it. You can find small activate text on right hand upper side.

I tried many contact form before this one, but I found this one very easy and helpful for newbies and professional blogger. 4.  Commentluv:

Comment is most important part for blogger to get opinion and credit for his work. So comment form has to be advance than regular one. Commentluv plug in show the latest post from the commenter’s blog, so some of blog user will post comment so next commenter can see the latest post of his blog and may visit his blog and he will also get more traffic.

You can check demo yourself by leaving comment on this post. Don’t forget to write your domain name, otherwise it will shows only regular comment.

5. Add to Any: Share/Bookmark/Email Button:

This Plugins allow your visitors to submit that your post to many social bookmarking site. This plugins also support email feature which will send email through Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL. It increase you traffic. Here is image of how it looks.

Affiliate links are more complicated and looks weird. Most blogger hide their affiliate link, not to hide from visitor that they are making money from it, but to make easier to remember only one link instead of that long URL.

Pretty link is wordpress plugin which make your affiliate link to your regular blog URL.

For example: If you have signed up for thesis theme affiliate program, you might have link looks like http://diythemes.com/affiliate/xxxxyyyyzzzzz. You want to make http://yourdomain.com/affiliate/thesistheme, you can do it easily using Pretty link wordpress plugin.

Whenever we talk about free stuff, first thing come up in our mind is their will be some limitation for it. Same is true with free wordpress. Here are some difference between free wordpress and Self hosted wordpress. 

1) Limitation on Theme Options

Free wordpress.com have some themes. You can use only from their list. You can’t add other than that. But in self hosted wordress, you can use any theme. You can edit theme in self hosted if you have knowledge about code and php. You can do same with free wordpress blog, but you need to pay extra for it.

2) No Private Advertising.

Yes, free wordpress.com isn’t allowing private advertise on your blog. Making money is reason to run blog, but if free wordpress is not allowing private advertising then you won’t prefer it as blog platform. If you are making blog only for friend and family then, free wordpress is best but not for professional blogger who is blogging for passion.

On other side, you can use code to put private advertise on self hosted wordpress blog. You can use ad any where on blog if you have knowledge of CSS.

3) WordPress Plugins

WordPress plugins play important role to make blog attractive. With plugins, you don’t need to code more. Free wordpress don’t allow you to upload wordpress plugins, but on self hosted blog, you can. WordPress.com have some but not all useful. As blogger we need twitter tools, tweetmeme, and social bookmarking….

4) Expensive Upgrades

Free wordpress give you access to use some features as self hosed blog such as custom domain, more storage and using other wordpress theme, but it will charge you more than self hosed blog.

5) Subdomains

Subdomain means another domain under your domain. For instance you have domain name http://www.yourdomain.com and you want to make forum using subdomain http://forums.yourdomain.com. You can’t in free wordpress blog, but in self hosted you have freedom to do it. You might not need it when you start new blog, but need after some time to use for forums or other purpose.
