Few day back, Apple released their iOS 4.0 and many of user have upgrade to it. But, there isn’t any jailbreak for it and you might want to downgrade your iPod touch or iPhone from iOS 4.0 to 3.1.3 and have no idea how to do it. Don’t worry, here is guide to do it.

Steps to Downgrade iOS 4.0 to 3.1.3 OS Firmware:

Step 1: Opening Notepad file.

First step is to make some change in host file. I read many of guide to do it, but none of them clear because you can’t edit that file unless until you are editing file as administrate.

Go to Start >> Accessories >> Right click on Command Prompt and choose run as administrator (Refer to image)

Type:  Notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

It will open notepad file.

Step 2: Adding redirect request URL.

In notepad file just type 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com at the end of page and press CTRl + S to save edit.

If you have run Command promp without administrator, you might get error that you don’t have permission to edit this file.

Step 3: Set up your device in recovery mode.

  • Turn off and unplug your device from your computer
  • Now press and hold the Home button while reconnecting the USB cable to your iPhone or iPod. After iPod or iPhone is connected it should power on the device.
  • Continue holding the Home button, you will see the iTunes logo appear and then finally a “Connect to iTunes” will be displayed, now is the time to release the Home button.
  • Once the logo appeared in iTunes, you can release the Home button and make a normal recover
