WordPress Theme Resource

Installing wordpress theme is easy, but to choose one from thousand themes will be little hard. We made list of theme providers, so it will be easy for you to hunt right theme for your blog.

1. Free WordPress themes:

If you are making blog only for family and friend or for fun, I will prefer you to go for free theme. Free theme will have features like free.

2. Premium WordPress themes:

Premium theme have lot of feature and option to edit in theme directly from admin panel. You don’t need to code a lot. If you are professional blogger, then I definitely recommend you to choose it.

Install wordpress theme from Admin Panel

If you are using WordPress 2.9 or higher, you have this option. If you are using old version or want theme other than wordpress list or from wordpress theme center, then use my “Install wordpress theme from cpanel”.

Log in to wordpress admin panel and Go to Appearance>>Add New Themes
Refer to below image:

Choose option according to your choice. Then click find theme. You will see two option, Install and Preview. Click preview and look how does your blog will look. Click install if you like that theme. Click activate. You are done..!

Upload wordpress theme from Admin Panel

WordPress 2.9 came up with lot of new feature and one of them is to upload theme from admin panel. Before, we have to go to cpanel and have to upload it and then we can choose theme. But now it is very simple.

Log in to your wordpress admin panel. Go to Appearance>>Add new theme. Click on Upload.(refer to image)

Browse you theme and press “Install Now”. After completing install, it will ask you option preview and activate. Preview theme and if you like it, click activate. It was easy…!

Install WordPress theme from cpanel

Download theme whichever you like from above theme provider.

Log in to cpanel using your username and password. This can be obtained when you buy hosting.( This is not wordpress username and password.)

Go to File Manager. After that, go to public_html/wp-content/themes/. If you have installed wordpress on http://www.yourdomain.com/blog then go to public_html/blog/wp-content/themes/

You will see page where you can find similar icons like below image.

Click on upload icon. It will redirect you to another page. Browse your file. It will upload itself whenever you select your file.(Refer to image)

Close that window and go to pubic_html/wp-content/themes/ or public_html/blog/wp-content/themes/. Select file name and click extract (See number 2).
You are almost done! Go back to wordpress admin page, click on Appearance>>Themes and select your theme. You can preview and if you like it, activate it. You can find small activate text on right hand upper side.

Animepress – WP theme Page

As, you have seen i have just made lot of change in my thesis theme to make it more attractive than before. I think that you also want to do it and need some tutorial. For those, who are not using thesis theme, should start to use. It is more way better than regular wordpress theme. If, you are planning to move to wordpress, please refer to my post Step by Step Guild to Install Self Hosted WordPress.

In this tutorial, I will explain you customize for thesis theme which are highly request up to now. If don’t own thesis theme, then, I will recommend you to buy one. You can buy one by clicking on thesis banner on sidebar.

You can either add color to background or image. I have added image. Here I will explain you both.
First if you want to add color, go to custom.css file using ftp. Add below line in it. This is only for thesis version older than 1.6

body.custom { background: #44443f; }

If you are using latest version of thesis theme, then you will find this option in your option page of thesis theme. You can refer to image.

If, you want to add image as background, then you can add below code in your custom.css file.

body.custom { background: url('/images/background.jpg') 50% 0  repeat-x; background-attachment:fixed}

You see fixed in above line. It won’t allow background to move.

In my previous post, I gave tutorial on how to install wordpress and now I will let you write on how to change theme in wordpress.

If you are using newest version of wordpress, then you have option to install directly. You can see in below image to install in newest version.

Click on “Add New Themes” in appearance column.

Then you will see page similar to below.

Click on image, if you can see it.

Choose option according to your choice. Then click on Find Theme. After that click on preview, so you will know, how does it looks like.

If, you like any theme, click on install. After that activate that theme. You are done.

Now, if you liked theme other than wordpress theme list, then you need to follow different steps. Here it is.

First you need to download theme and remeber that path. Then login to your cpanel and click on file manager. After that, go to public_html/wp-content/themes/

If you have installed blog same where like http://yourdomain.com/blog then you need to follow this path. Public_html/blog/wp-content/themes/.

Click on upload button and upload you theme. then click on extract button. Please refer to my image to understand this two step.

Go back to your blog admin page. You can click on “Themes” in appearance column. You will see your installed them over there. Click on that theme you will see a preview of that theme. If you want to activate that theme, you will see a link at right hand side top corner. click on it and your theme is active. I hope that you understand it.
