1) Limitation on Theme Options

Free wordpress.com have some themes. You can use only from their list. You can’t add other than that. But in self hosted wordress, you can use any theme. You can edit theme in self hosted if you have knowledge about code and php. You can do same with free wordpress blog, but you need to pay extra for it.

2) No Private Advertising.

Yes, free wordpress.com isn’t allowing private advertise on your blog. Making money is reason to run blog, but if free wordpress is not allowing private advertising then you won’t prefer it as blog platform. If you are making blog only for friend and family then, free wordpress is best but not for professional blogger who is blogging for passion.

On other side, you can use code to put private advertise on self hosted wordpress blog. You can use ad any where on blog if you have knowledge of CSS.

3) WordPress Plugins

WordPress plugins play important role to make blog attractive. With plugins, you don’t need to code more. Free wordpress don’t allow you to upload wordpress plugins, but on self hosted blog, you can. WordPress.com have some but not all useful. As blogger we need twitter tools, tweetmeme, and social bookmarking….

4) Expensive Upgrades

Free wordpress give you access to use some features as self hosed blog such as custom domain, more storage and using other wordpress theme, but it will charge you more than self hosed blog.

5) Subdomains

Subdomain means another domain under your domain. For instance you have domain name http://www.yourdomain.com and you want to make forum using subdomain http://forums.yourdomain.com. You can’t in free wordpress blog, but in self hosted you have freedom to do it. You might not need it when you start new blog, but need after some time to use for forums or other purpose.

Custom admin Branding give you option to choose different color, image and many more option to select. Take look at setting page:

Customizing image:

• Admin Header Logo
• Favorite Actions Button Background
• Footer Logo

This plugin don’t only allow you to change login page, but at same time it also shows you preview so you can make it more attractive. Custom admin branding is mostly useful with brand companies.

WP plugin: Custom Admin Branding

Well, WordPress allow you to use that feature and this is one of my reason why I usually recommend people to use wordpress as blogging stage.

First of all log in to your wordpress admin panel and create new post. Give title and write stuff you want to put in post. Then before publishing wait. Refer to my image.

On right side you will see small box as publish title. Click on edit link next to Public. You will see more option as well above image. Click on small box which I marked by red box. You are done. Now, this post is not going to move unless until you remove mark or make another sticky post.

Before I talk about this plugins let’s see screen shot of setting page.

If you can see image clear, just click on image.

You can see in setting area, you need to fill one field with your Favicon Icon URL and another you have to choose where do you want to show this favicon such as on blog, admin page or blog and admin page both.

This plugins is only for wordpress, so blogger user have to use my given tricks. Happy Blogging..!

For blogger, here is small code you need to add in HTML code of blogger theme.

First you need to find code:

Just copy and paste below code after <head> code:

Insted of “http://www.iconj.com/ico/m/k/mk13dr2mta.ico” change to your favicon URL.

Its done for blogger user.

For wordpress:

In wordpress, it is more simple than blogger. Just upload your favicon in /public_html/ with .ico extension.

WordPress will get your favicon directly. If this trick won’t work then you can use same trick as blogger but in wordpress you need to add that code in public_html/index.php

One of the best plugin for twitter user. This plugins allow you and and visitors to twit any post. This plugin change regular url to shorten url. So, we don’t need to even short url. Here is image how its looks like when we activate it. It will looks like this:

3. Contact form 7:

Contact page is very important part of any blog user in either wordpress or blogger.com, because most user use contact form to contact the author of particular blog.

I tried many contact form before this one, but I found this one very easy and nice for newbies and professional blogger. 4. Commentluv:

Comment is most important part for blogger to get opinion and credit for his work. So comment form has to be advance than regular one. Commentluv plug in show the latest post from the commenter’s blog, so some of blog user will post comment so next commenter can see the latest post of his blog and may visit his blog and he will also get more traffic. 5. Add to Any: Share/Bookmark/Email Button:

This Plugins allow your visitors to submit that post to many social bookmarking site. This plugins also support email feature which will send email through Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL. Here is image of how it looks..

If you are using newest version of wordpress, then you have option to install directly. You can see in below image to install in newest version.

Click on “Add New Themes” in appearance column.

Then you will see page similar to below.

Click on image, if you can see it.

Choose option according to your choice. Then click on Find Theme. After that click on preview, so you will know, how does it looks like.

If, you like any theme, click on install. After that activate that theme. You are done.

Now, if you liked theme other than wordpress theme list, then you need to follow different steps. Here it is.

First you need to download theme and remeber that path. Then login to your cpanel and click on file manager. After that, go to public_html/wp-content/themes/

If you have installed blog same where like http://yourdomain.com/blog then you need to follow this path. Public_html/blog/wp-content/themes/.

Click on upload button and upload you theme. then click on extract button. Please refer to my image to understand this two step.

Go back to your blog admin page. You can click on “Themes” in appearance column. You will see your installed them over there. Click on that theme you will see a preview of that theme. If you want to activate that theme, you will see a link at right hand side top corner. click on it and your theme is active. I hope that you understand it.
